The traverse of the Vallee Blanche is a classic alpine glacier trek amongst amazing scenery. You’ll need a good head for heights on the Midi Arete, but rest of it is much easier..

F 642 m 4-5 hrs

The traverse can be done either direction: France to Italy involves decending the famous Midi Arete at the start of the day – but it’s mostly dowhill after that. Going Italy to France means more uphill, but you climb up the Arete at the end of the day, which is easier than going down it. The rest of the traverse is an amazing glacier journey, weaving in and out of crevasses (some of them are huge) and enjoying incredible views. The descents are straightforward, but the climbs are hard work, as all of the route is above 3000m. At the end of the traverse, it’s normal to take the Mont Blanc Panoramic Cable Car back across to the starting point to complete the round trip.
